Dear listers,

please see the announcement below, for all those interested in Africa conservation work … please direct any queries to bluesolutions at giz.de.

The dates for the “Regional Forum on Solutions for Oceans, Coasts and Human Wellbeing in Africa” have now been confirmed to take place on 31 May – 3 June 2016 in the SeaCliff, Zanzibar, Tanzania and you can now express your interest in participating in this event by submitting the attached form.

Please also forward this to African practitioners and policy makers involved in marine and coastal planning, management and governance for sustainable development who you would recommend to take part in the event.

The first day of the forum will start with a high-level event and networking sessions to get to know your fellow participants. On the second day, we will learn from solution providers from all over Africa about their experiences and successes in various aspects of planning and management for sustainable use and conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems. The third day is dedicated to exploring strategies and practicalities in applying different solutions presented and discuss their relevance in addressing specific marine and coastal environmental challenges in Africa, as well contributing to the achievement of international targets. On the last day, there will be different options for field trips around Zanzibar to experience solutions in action.

Thanks to all of you who submitted your inspiring experiences through the call of solutions. We are currently in the process of reviewing all solution submissions and you will hear back from us latest by the end of February. As mentioned above, on the second day of the forum solutions will be exchanged: solutions will provide the basis for thematically-clustered, in-depth discussions. In this regard, solution summaries on posters will be prepared and selected solutions will lead as key inputs during these group discussions.

The event has a maximum capacity for 100 participants and solution providers will have priority. The Blue Solutions Initiative can provide full board and room for all participants. Travel costs, however, have to be covered by the participants and travel support is only available for selected solution providers (max 1 solution provider per solution). Please use the attached application form to express your interest in participating in the event and send it back to us by the end of February. We will review these expressions of interest regarding representation from different regions, sectors and type of organization, and will get back to you by end of March.

Please do not hesitate to contact us in case you have any questions or comments.

We look forward to meeting many of you in Zanzibar and engaging in a lively exchange around African blue solutions.

With best wishes,

The Blue Solutions Team
