Dear Colleagues,

As the deadline approaches for submitting abstracts to the
13th International Coral Reef Symposium meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii in June
2016, we would like to draw your attention to Session 10: 'Metabolism
Studies/Observations of Coral Reef Communities'.

*Session Description*

Studies of coral reef metabolism can provide systems-level information
about the status and functioning of an ecosystem and provide a baseline
against which change over time can be judged. Is the system producing
sufficient organic matter to support the ecosystem at all trophic levels?
Is the system producing sufficient calcium carbonate to maintain the
architectural complexity of the reef-framework and keep up with bio-erosion
and sea-level rise? We invite abstracts for studies that address the above
questions from a wide variety of backgrounds, including: carbon cycling,
nutrients, feeding/plankton studies, etc. We encourage submissions from
both descriptive and manipulative studies (e.g., laboratory (mesocosm) and
field-based observations, paleo/coring/retrospective studies, modeling
studies, CO2 seep studies) in the hopes of bridging our knowledge from a
variety of backgrounds to foster a systems-level understanding of the past,
present, and future functioning of coral reef ecosystems.
