Public Demonstration of Precision of Siltation Monitoring Instrument SediMeter™

Time: Monday, February 1st, 10AM
Place: Lindorm, Inc., 10699 NW 123rd Street Rd, Medley, FL 33178, USA

The demonstration will be done using the same tank as in this video: https://youtu.be/ZC9b6HUYMYM, enabling attendants to confirm with their own eyes that the instrument is capable of detecting the sedimentation of 0.1 mm of sediment, and that it thus is suitable for measuring siltation on coral reefs that may result from dredging-related sediment spill.

The inventor, Dr. Ulf Erlingsson, will be on site to answer question about the use of the instrument for siltation monitoring. Dr. Erlingsson was hired as a siltation monitoring expert by the Swedish government for supervising the sediment spill monitoring during the building of the Øresund Link between Sweden and Denmark, the most ambitious spill monitoring project in the world to date.

The SediMeter was invented in the 1980's for sedimentation research, and was found to react to as little as the addition of a single grain of sand in front of the sensor. After having been manufactured on license in Norway, Dr. Erlingsson took over production himself in 2006, and developed a new version designed specifically for the monitoring of siltation on coral reefs and other sensitive biotopes in relation to harbor dredging, beach replenishment, etc. His goal was to facilitate the continued economical development without damaging the natural resources that makes South Florida attractive to tourists in the first place. The SediMeter™ has been manufactured in Miami-Dade County since 2007.
