Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research. Regular, Full-Time,
RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science
and Technology (SOEST), Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research
(JIMAR), located at the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Pacific
Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) located in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs,
satisfactory work performance, and availability of funds. *MONTHLY
SALARY: *Salary
commensurate with qualifications. *DUTIES: *Serves as a member of the Coral
Reef Ecosystem Program (CREP) Senior Management Team and contributes to the
overall program management and strategic planning for funding and
operations. Meets regularly with program leadership, team leads, and other
JIMAR staff to coordinate scientific endeavors. Works as overall supervisor
for JIMAR staff in CREP, organizes JIMAR recruitment actions and
performance evaluations in the program, coordinates program proposals and
reports, establishes JIMAR project budgets and tracks project
accounts. *PRIMARY
QUALIFICATIONS:* *EDUCATION/TRAINING: *PhD from an accredited college or
university in marine sciences, marine biology or ecology, oceanography, or
related field. *EXPERIENCE: *Three to five (3-5) years of experience as a
research scientist; Three to five (3-5) years of project and budget
management experience; Three to five (3-5) years of supervisory experience
of five (5) or more employees. *ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: *Knowledge of marine
ecosystems sciences, particularly related to coral reefs. Knowledge of
project, budget, and personnel management. Good understanding of proposal
development, budgeting, procurement, report writing, and general science
administration. Must be able to meet and maintain the United States
Department of Commerce (DOC) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) security requirements to access work location. Must
be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien. Ability to perform a full
range of supervisory functions, including planning, assigning, reviewing
work, arranging training and evaluating employee performance. Strong
organizational, leadership, management, and communications skills. Ability
to work with others on strategic planning and managing staff. Must be
proficient in the use of PC for word processing and spreadsheets. Post
Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to meet and maintain US Department
of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
security requirements for working in a federal facility, which includes
being fingerprinted and having a federal background check performed prior
to date of hire and maintained throughout duration of employment.
