> Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego formally announces that January 11, 2018 is the application deadline for the Master of Advanced Studies Program in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation <https://scripps.ucsd.edu/masters/mas/mbc> (MAS MBC). This 12-month intensive master's program is geared toward early to mid-career professionals interested in marine conservation careers.
>
> The MAS MBC program equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to be effective and enduring leaders in the field of marine conservation. Coursework focuses on marine and climate science, ecology, communications, law and policy, economics, and environmental justice. Students also get practical training in scientific survey design and analysis, communication tools (including filmmaking), negotiation, facilitation, and many other tangible skills.
>
> Courses and fieldwork are led by professors from the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation <http://cmbc.ucsd.edu/> (CMBC) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography <https://scripps.ucsd.edu/> , as well as top-ranked departments at UC San Diego, including the Graduate School of Global Policy & Strategy <http://gps.ucsd.edu/>, the departments of Communications <http://communication.ucsd.edu/>, Economics <http://economics.ucsd.edu/>, Visual Arts <http://visarts.ucsd.edu/>, and others. Government agencies such as NOAA’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center <https://swfsc.noaa.gov/>, private entities, non-governmental organizations and other external experts enhance the program by providing special lectures and workshops.
>
> Approximately 20 students are admitted to this hands-on, interdisciplinary program each year. Armed with critical knowledge and professional training, our students go on to direct programs at agencies, non-governmental organizations and foundations, where they tackle the many challenges our oceans face today.
>
> The diversity of personal experiences, values, and worldviews that arise from differences of culture and circumstance strengthens the MAS MBC program. We actively seek opportunities to engage international students, students from historically excluded populations, and individuals from underserved communities in our program.
>
> The MAS MBC program will begin in June 2018. For more information on the program and to access an online application, please visit: https://scripps.ucsd.edu/masters/mas/mbc <https://scripps.ucsd.edu/masters/mas/mbc>.
