Hi folks

Just to follow up on a recent post, I'd like to draw your attention to two exciting post-doc opportunities at the University of Queensland, part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Reef Studies.

1) Spatial analyst to join a multi-disciplinary team who're working with the GBRMPA to develop a Guidance System for Resilience-Based Management.

The position requires the integration of field data on reef state, GIS analysis, ecological models and larval connectivity. This is a great opportunity to undertake applied ecological research that ties closely to management and also develop research partnerships between UQ, AIMS and CSIRO, all of whom are partnering on the project. The post will run for nearly 3 years and will start in the first quarter of 2018.

Closing date: 24th January 2018

Post-doctoral GIS / Spatial Modellor (501763)

2) Critical species that support coral reef function

This 18 month position will support a large working group of 20 leading researchers from JCU, UQ, AIMS and CSIRO. The team are evaluating reef ecosystem function and making recommendations on the most important species driving healthy ecosystems, their level of threat, and what can be done to mitigate such threats. The team will be considering all major taxa including corals, fish, sponges, algae and microbes. This is a rare opportunity to work with a diversity of scientists and gain exposure to multiple perspectives. The specific role will involve data collation, synthesis, analysis and the writing of manuscripts and reports. The post is based at UQ and will open in early January. The key qualification is a PhD relevant to coral reef ecosystem function and a good publication history from your PhD (and later if appropriate).

Lastly, I'd like to stress that we're genuinely looking for new applicants. International applications are eligible though we are required to give priority to Australian residents.
