[Coral-List] Australian contest for ideas to save their reef

Hi Sarah

Solar panels have high penetration in Australia but mainly supported by State Governments. Our current Federal government has very weak support for renewables, so much of the large scale installation of both household and large solar projects occurs despite the Federal government.

Currently around Townsville (where there is lots of sun) more than one billion A$ in projects are underway including large scale solar with pumped water storage, large scale solar and wind with batteries as well as further installation of roof top solar but now often with battery storage.

You will also maybe be aware of the Tesla battery in South Australia (about 100 MW) that Musk installed with a guarantee that it would be operational in I think 3 months or the government (South Australia) did not have to pay.. Anyhow Tesla fulfilled those terms and the battery is now an important part of the grid.

Cheers

Jon

Jon,

what is the situation with solar panels in Australia? and renewables in general?

Re: Doug Fenner's post: Unfortunately this is just another "miracle solutions" farce in line with many other recently funding projects to "save the reef". The Australian Government promote these to distract from their unwillingness to manage climate change (through emissions control in Australia) or terrestrially sourced pollution discharge to the GBR (through lack of adequate funding and refusal to enforce existing legislation). Sad days for the GBR.

Yesterday another A$60 million was announced to continue funding programs even Government reports admit don't work! They are 1. culling crown of thorns starfish and 2. paying farmers to reduce pollution!

Cheers

Jon
