Dear Coral-List,

We are looking to appoint two exceptional candidates to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore (consistently ranked among the world's top 30 universities and Asia's top 2 universities).

Position 1. To work on the project "Ecologically engineering Singapore's seawalls to enhance biodiversity" with Peter Todd and Huang Danwei. This is a large interdisciplinary seawall eco-engineering research effort comprising multiple sub-projects represented by teams with extensive expertise in coral and intertidal biology, restoration ecology, engineering, microbiology, and materials science. The Research Fellow will investigate the responses of coral fragments transplanted to the lower reaches of seawalls around Singapore, in particular among-genotype effects and gene expression in relation to desiccation, temperature, and water flow.

Position 2. To work on the project "Sex allocation, reproductive strategies and reproductive senescence in fungiid corals: a comparative study in the coral reefs of Israel and Singapore" with Yossi Loya and Peter Todd. This bilateral project will study sex allocation strategies with respect to fecundity, reproductive effort/success, rates of mortality and growth, population sex ratio, individual size/age and life expectancy, conspecific interactions, and stress effects. The Research Fellow will help lead the research in Singapore, including in-situ fieldwork, ex-situ coral spawning, laboratory analyses, and manuscript/report preparation.

Applicants for both these positions must possess a PhD and be keen to develop a highly-productive research career. Relevant experience and SCUBA diving proficiency are essential; a (manual) driving licence is desirable. Applicants should have a strong publication record for their career stage; additional competencies include independence, leadership and logistical acumen, excellent statistical and analytical skills, outstanding writing abilities, and the capacity to work within a diverse group of scientists. These are 2-year positions based in Singapore. Singapore citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply. Salary range is from 55,000 to 80,000 Singapore Dollars per year depending on qualifications and experience. Singapore has a low tax environment. Applicants should send their CV and cover letter to Dr Peter Todd at dbspat at nus.edu.sg. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Best wishes,

Peter Todd
