[Coral-List] Hawaiian Teachers Workshop for Elementary School Teachers

Dear Coral Listers,

We still have spots available for our Hawaiian Teachers Workshop for
elementary school teachers.

When: July 14 ˗ 15, 2018

Where: Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology Kaneohe, Oahu HI

Cost: Free!

This is a two day workshop for teachers in Hawaii. Participants will stay
at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology and learn about coral biology
from scientists.

Participants will develop educational activities using the NSF ˗ LTER
bilingual children’s book, “Kupe and the Corals” (ages 8 ˗ 12, grade level
3 ˗ 7) as a platform. The book, “Kupe and the Corals” will be provided to
all participants.

The workshop will coincide with the lunar dates when corals reproduce,
providing the participants with hands ˗ on experience and providing
assistance to the research team during the reproduction event. Activities
will be developed during the workshop that the teachers can share with
their students.

Housing, meals, and a stipend of $100 per day will be provided. For
participants traveling to Oahu, airfare will be covered.
