Dear Coral Listers,

A recent article in the MEAM newsletter covers how researchers and
practitioners are gleaning information from social media to better
understand how people are using coastal and marine environments and
resources, as well as conduct coastal and marine monitoring. One of the
applications profiled is the use of Flickr to estimate values of coral
reef tourism. You can read the article at
https://meam.openchannels.org/news/meam/mining-social-media-new-world-abundant-messy-data-and-what-marine-conservation-and.

This topic was absolutely fascinating to cover, and we hope these case
studies provide some inspiration for other coastal and marine managers
and conservation practitioners.

And as always, the newsletter pulls together the latest news and
resources for ocean planners and managers:

Thank you for your attention, and apologies for any cross-postings.

Best wishes,
Sarah Carr
