Single large or several small marine reserves

Hello,

I am a Phd Student and I am working on marine protected areas in New
Caledonia. In the lagoon of New Caledonia there are several islets and
barrier reefs. Some of them are in reserve and other are open to fishing.
Differences were found for little islets between reserve and no-reserve
but no differences were found for great barrier reef.  Does anybody have
information on difference between large ands small reserve also named as
SLOSS theory.
