Phoenix effect

Dear Listers

I am looking for the origin of the term "phoenix effect" in relation to 
the observed "death" of a coral colony with subsequent rapid 
regeneration of the colony. So far i have only seen it in the coral-list 
archives but is there a more valid reference?
