Response to psakanan at ratree.psu.ac.th regarding sponge preservation.
Dear Coral Listeners
There is a Guide to the classification of sponges (including collection,
preservation, histology etc.) at the following URL
(http://www.qmuseum.qld.gov.au/organisation/sections/SessileMarineInvertebra
tes/index.asp) [scroll down the page until you come to "Download the Guide
to ... etc" The document is in PDF format.
Unfortunately this 'Sponguide' is now very much out of date, and will
shortly be replaced by a 'Systema Porifera' (Hooper & Van Soest (eds),
Plenum Press, New York) (probably in 2 volumes, and hopefully published
mid-2002). Nevertheless, the 'Sponguide' should give you a window into the
phylum - yes, there are other phyla living in coral reefs !
