Volunteer marine science position available

Reef Check Australia is still looking for two volunteer marine scientists to 
help organise and lead coral reef surveys on the Great Barrier Reef in early 
2004.  Volunteers will need to be energetic, experienced divers with the 
capacity to lead teams on scuba surveys of the Reef.

This placement will run from January 16th until the end of April.  The 
successful volunteers will get free Reef Check training in Townsville on the 
16th – 30th January 2004. They will then help to organise and participate in 
up to 40 Reef Check surveys on the Great Barrier Reef between Port Douglas and 
Airlie Beach.

All travel to and within Australia, accommodation and food costs must be 
covered by the volunteer.  We estimate that you will need between A$150-A$250 
per week. This will be variable depending on time spent on land.

Responsibilities will include:
»	Organisation of surveys on dive tourist boats (~2-4 weeks based in 
Townsville)
»	Leading Reef Check teams in up to 40 surveys (~8 weeks based from Port 
Douglas, Cairns, Townsville and Airlie Beach)
»	Data entry and compilation of a report (~1 week based in Townsville)

Qualifications
»	Minimum Bachelors degree in marine science 
»	Experience with coral reef monitoring
»	Minimum SCUBA Divemaster training or a rescue diver qualification with 
a minimum of 200 dives
»	Own dive gear to include dive computer and knife
»	Senior First Aid 
»	Occupational Dive medical to AS 2299 (can easily be obtained in 
Australia for $130)
»	DAN insurance
