Faculty Job Vacancies at the University of the Virgin Islands starting 
Fall 2004

 

Position: Research Assistant Professor in Biological Oceanography; 
full-time, non-tenure track.

 

The Center for Marine and Environmental Studies at the University of the 
Virgin Islands invites applicants for a research assistant professor 
level position to begin September 2004. The candidate must have a PhD in 
a discipline appropriate to the study of coastal current patterns on 
movement, transport and distribution of tropical marine organisms. 
Candidates must have training and expertise in biological oceanography 
with research areas of interest to include modeling of coastal current 
patterns and/or identification of larval marine invertebrates and 
fishes; experience in Caribbean preferred.  Candidates are required to 
develop and maintain an active extramurally-funded research program in 
biological oceanography and will be part of a research group studying 
the Biocomplexity of Caribbean Coral Reefs (BCCR), an NSF-EPSCoR funded 
initiative. The successful applicant will teach one undergraduate level 
course per year and should have a strong desire to involve undergraduate 
students in research. Other duties include institutional, departmental, 
and community service and student advising.

 

Salary: $45,000 - $55,000 for 12 month appointment; excellent benefits 
package.

Position:  Graduate Program Administrator, full-time

 

The University of the Virgin Islands invites applicants for a Graduate 
Program Administrator to begin September 2004. This position is part of 
an NSF-EPSCoR funded initiative which seeks to strengthen the research 
infrastructure of the Virgin Islands and works to expand opportunities 
for Virgin Islanders by supporting and enhancing science and engineering 
education, research, and outreach programs. The candidate must have a 
PhD in the biological sciences and experience working with federally 
funded programs. Preferences are given to applicants who have 
administrative experience especially in the area graduate programs which 
provided degrees in the marine sciences or related fields or in 
management of research facilities. The duties of the Graduate Programs 
Administrator will include conducting a feasibility study for 
appropriate graduate programs at UVI, develop funding opportunities 
focused on building the marine science research and education programs, 
recruitment of faculty, manage VI EPSCoR funded initiatives including 
facility improvements and forge collaborations between the University of 
the Virgin Islands, other educational entities, and industry. The EPSCoR 
Graduate Program Administrator will provide support for the EPSCoR 
Director and Program Coordinator to launch VI EPSCoR related graduate 
programs. 

 

Salary: $55,000 for 12 month appointment; excellent benefits package
