The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History seeks a Programs Manager for
its innovative new Sea Center. Will oversee all education and exhibit
functions including the development, implementation, and evaluation of
all exhibits and public and school education programs. Must have 3 yrs
management experience & experience in developing hands-on science
programs for all ages. Ability to work partial weekends a must.

Position Description
Title: Sea Center Programs Manager
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Department: Sea Center
Reports To: Sea Center Director
Created: June 7, 2004
 
Position Summary: The Sea Center Programs Manager is responsible for the
overall education and exhibit functions of the Sea Center, including the
development, implementation, and evaluation of all exhibits and public
and school education programs. 
The position requires demonstrated experience in developing,
implementing and evaluating hands-on interactive exhibits and science
programs designed for the general public as well as for K-12 students.
 
Specific Responsibilities:
*        Serves with the Sea Center Director and Operations Manager on
the Sea Center management team to ensure smooth operation of the
facility.
*        Works with Exhibits and Sea Center staff to develop, execute,
and evaluate all Sea Center exhibits.
*        Develops, monitors, and evaluates curriculum for all school
programs to ensure that it meets the needs of teachers and students.
*        Establishes a standard for smooth operation of all educational
programs and services.
*        Ensure that all grant-funded programs, such as Los Marineros,
comply with standards and guidelines outlined by granting agencies.
*        Track budgets of all educational programs and services to
ensure departmental goals are being met.
*        Builds into all programs an evaluation model with measurable
goals and objectives and analyzes
evaluation data to ensure program success.
*        Recruits, trains and oversees program staff and ensures that
they are accomplishing their goals.
*        Maintains strong relationships with education professionals and
institutions to ensure program
support and relevance.
*        Stays abreast of market trends to ensure our offerings continue
to be successful and relevant.
*        Works in conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure
adequate volunteer staffing of the
facility. 

*	Works closely with Museum's Education division to ensure
consistency and coordination of all programs and exhibits with main
campus.
	 
	Essential Requirements:
	* Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and
evaluating hands-on interactive exhibits and science programs for all
ages, including the general public and K-12 students.
	* Bachelor's degree in related field.
	* Minimum of three years of management experience.
	* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including
excellent writing skills.
	* Ability to work partial weekends, and occasional holidays and
evenings.
	* Ability to interact with the general public.
	* Flexible, well organized and able to work on several projects
simultaneously.
	* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
	* Teaching credential preferred.
	* Experience designing exhibits a plus.
	* Bilingual a plus.
	 
	Work Environment:
	*        General office environment with frequent work in a
classroom environment and work throughout the sea center's facilities.
	*        Frequent work outdoors during field trips in various
natural environments
	*        Significant computer and telephone work (repetitive
movement - typing)
	*        Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending and
climbing stairs with occasional lifting of light to moderate loads (10-
