Dear Coral-List,

I am updating my survey of bioindicators for a new NOAA manual on
indicators of pollution.

If you have information on new bioindicators, or bioindicators under
development, that you would like included in the manual, please forward
it to me in the following format before June 21, 2004.

Specific pollutant or mixture targeted:
Metric/attribute name:
Region tested:
Regions applicable:
Summary of Protocol:
Research needs/recommendation:

Please do not send information already included in:

Jameson SC, Erdmann MV, Karr JR, Potts KW (2001) Charting a course toward
diagnostic monitoring: A continuing review of coral reef attributes and a
research strategy for creating coral reef indexes of biotic integrity.
Bull Mar Sci 69(2):701-744

Jameson SC, Erdmann MV, Gibson Jr GR, Potts KW (1998) Development of
biological criteria for coral reef ecosystem assessment. Atoll Res

Both of these publications can be viewed on the USEPA Coral Reef Website:

Updates to this already published information would also be appreciated.

PS. Reminder

International Coral Reef Symposium (Okinawa) Minisymposium 4-2 titled:

"Diagnostic monitoring and assessment of coral reefs: studies from around
the world".

is targeted at creating a new paradigm for coral reef monitoring (i.e.,
one with early warning and diagnostic capabilities) using bioindicators
and indexes of biotic integrity.
