POSITION: Science Coordinator (Full-time) with the American Samoa
Department of Commerce Fagatele Bay National Marine Sanctuary
START DATE: May/June, 2005
LOCATION: Pago Pago, American Samoa
FBNMS is seeking a self-starting, independent, energetic and
enthusiastic individual to join our sanctuary team. FBNMS is co-managed
by NOAA and the American Samoa Government, and this is a contract
position with the American Samoa Government.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Science Coordinator will work under the
supervision of FNBMS' manager and sanctuary coordinator, developing and
implementing the site's coral reef monitoring program. A full position

QUALIFICATIONS: This position is field oriented. The successful
applicant will have a working understanding of coral reef processes. The
job requires at least a college degree with experience conducting coral
reef monitoring programs; a self-starting personality and ability to
work independently are important, as well as working as part of a team;
attention to detail and advanced computer skills are essential,
including using the Internet, database management, GIS and experience
with Microsoft Office applications. Applicant must be scuba certified
with an advanced certification and at least 50 dives, and be able to
qualify for the NOAA diver certification. Experience with presentation
and graphics applications, including web applications, experience with
boat handling and maintenance, excellent organizational and
communications (written and verbal) abilities, are a plus. A good sense
of humor, interest in the ocean and in the mission of the sanctuary

COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with experience and and will
reflect local professional wage levels. Benefits include housing
