The appointee will manage and develop IMR`s teaching, training,
research, consultancy and project management activities at Laucala
Campus, Fiji, and will report to the Chair of the Institutes
Coordinating Committee through the Coordinator of the Marine
Studies Program at USP. The appointee will undertake a feasibility
study on re-establishment of IMR in the Solomon Islands. In the
event of a favourable finding on its re-establishment, the appointee
will develop strategic, research and business plans, attract
sources of funding, oversee the establishment of facilities, and
direct operations in the new Solomon Islands location.
Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant area of tropical marine
studies (coral reefs, fisheries, aquaculture, environmental or
resource management); demonstrated capability in planning and
programme development; the ability to develop multi-disciplinary
teams; the ability to develop project proposals and to attract external
funding; tertiary teaching or research experience; and good cross-
cultural experience and awareness.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in commercial
consulting services; experience in working in Pacific island
countries; experience in international development assistance;
professional research publications in a relevant area; SCUBA
qualifications and experience, or practical skills in safe vessel
operations.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be
renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range:
Associate Professor
F$79 721 to F$89 686 per annum
(Inclusive of 15% Gratuity)
The University may pay an inducement allowance of up to 30% to
secure the services of an exceptionally well qualified candidate. In
addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of
basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides
airfare and relocation costs where appropriate. Two copies of your
