Please find below an announcement for teachers in the Galapagos. OEDSI works with scientists to teach students about the sustainable use of resources, both land and marine based. Although not strictly coral reef based we are partnered to a marine protected area in Vanuatu and will be partnering with marine resouce managers in the Galapagos as part of our program. Job Description- Teachers Needed for the Tomas de Berlanga School, Galapagos

 

The Scalesia Education Foundation is currently in need of teachers for the 2006 school year at the Tomas de Berlanga School on Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos. OEDSI is forming a partnership with Scalesia to adopt our Sustainable Education program as Tomas de Berlanga's school curriculum. 

 

Start Date of Positions: March 1st, 2006

 

Number of positions: Three

 

Experience: qualified and experienced language teachers, one with an emphasis in science and one with experience in environmental teaching. Applicants with intermediate Spanish language skills preferred.

 

Grade levels: The age of the students is 5-17 years old. Applicants must have experience in primary or secondary education. 

 

Teaching and School Hours: School hours 7am-2pm, 25 hours a week. Hours in between classes will be used for lesson planning, work in the school library and attending to parents.

 

Pay: $450 a month to cover room and board. The school is looking for people who are prepared to work in a different environment, are enthusiastic and willing to gain something from the experience. As their funding is limited they are seeking educators whose passion for teaching and working to improve education in the Galapagos will be compensatory in and of itself.

 

Bonus: End of contract cruise around the islands!
