Maybe ask the academical unit in Puerto Morelos (Institute of Ocean 
Science and Limnology, UNAM, http://www.gefcoral.org/coe/mex.htm) or 
ECOSUR Chetumal (http://www.ecosur-qroo.mx/). CONANP (National 
Commission for Protected Areas) has also a field station in Xcalak...
