Rather good colour videos of Carribean coral reefs from the early
fifties

Dear coral-list,

I am not sure if this is of use for anybody, but at least it deserves to
be
mentioned: I recently obtained all available underwater scuba films made
by the Austrian naturalists Hans and Lotte Hass. Some of their films go
back as early as 1942, and particularly one film in color (in either
German or English language) from the early fifties, shows what the coral
reefs in southern parts of the Carribean (e.g. Curacao) looked like. For
example, it is interesting to see the pure lack of bleached corals. Most
of their underwater films are available on DVD from Amazon.de. The
quality of these films are of course not up to the standards of todays
underwater movies from National geographic, Discoveries and other
similar channels, but for their time they are of a rather high quality.

Cheers, Mike Arvedlund
