Hi Mike,

just wanted to add the open source ILWIS 3.4 (http://www.itc.nl/ilwis/, with 
a link to more information and the download center) to the list. Also quite 
elaborate and easy to learn to use.
I sometimes also use IDRISI but that's quite expensive and mainly raster 
based.
