Dear colleagues:

We would like to invite you to participate in Mini-Symposium 12, "Reef resilience", being held at the 11th ICRS in Fort Lauderdale, July 7th-11th 2008.

The central topics of Mini-Symposium 12 are as follows:

1) What are the pathways by which previous experience with sub-lethal stress allows corals to acclimatize and become better prepared physiologically for additional stress?

2) Is selection strong enough that adaptation to local environmental stresses can occur under usual levels of connectivity?

3) How does the physical environment (e.g., climate/ocean interactions, local water motion, shade) enhance the ability of corals to endure thermal stress in some localities more than others?

4) How is the capacity of coral communities to recover affected by initial community composition (e.g., branching, massive, mixed species) and by morphological characteristics of the reef (e.g., topographic complexity, solidified substrata)?

Submissions that address these questions are encouraged but not mandatory. We welcome abstract submissions on these topics as well as all aspects of “Reef resilience”. If you have an alternative question or questions you are addressing, please so note. All submissions addressing “Reef resilience” are encouraged to be submitted for consideration.

When submitting your abstracts, please use the session code: Mini-Symposium 12. The deadline for abstract submission is 15 November 2007.
