Hi ?ngel Fari?a!
About whale sharks, if you have photos of the whale sharks on it's left and right side, just right after the gills, it will be good for the identification of the shark. Also, some skin markings, cuts on the dorsal and anal fin would also be a good identification guide for identifying individual whale shark. Have been involved with whale shark research here in the Philippines and might be able to help you out.
Cheers,
Christine

Dear friends.
The last month we was diving in the Gulf of Paria, to the east of Venezuela. We observed a big whale shark over a stone reef. this is the second third time that I had seen it. If any of you know some people interesting in the information, please tell me. We have a video and pictures.
Thanks and best whishes

A research cruise sponsored by the Flower Garden Banks National Marine
Sanctuary was conducted to document the predicted mass spawning event
on the coral caps at the East and West Flower Garden Banks, September
3-7, 2007. These coral reefs are located 100 miles directly south of
the Texas/Louisiana border in the Gulf of Mexico. The mass coral
spawning event occurred as predicted for the most part, although not
as heavy a spawn as seen in previous years, and some species
observation were a little off typical predictions, e.g. Colpophyllia
natans spawned on both the 9th night after the full moon, as well as
on the predicted 10th night after the full moon. Other spawning
predictions for brittle stars, christmas tree worms and sponges were
not observed in numbers as expected. The predictions were made based
on a full moon on August 28, 2007 at 1035 GMT.
The following observations were made:
Water temperature at observation depth : 86F
Salinity at observation depth: 35.5PPT
Depth of observations: approximately 75' to 80'

Bleaching Prediction
Meandrina meandrites will begin bleaching on Boynton Beach, FL reefs the
last week of September. The annual onset of bleaching begins within days
following the autumnal equinox. Bleached colonies will recovery by December.
A summary of seven years of bleaching observations can be viewed online at:
http://www.reef-rescue.org/research/MazeOnset.pdf
Anyone interested in collecting pre-bleaching baseline data should make
arrangements to do so now. Feel free to email me for assistance.
