The Southeast Florida Coral Reef Initiative (SEFCRI) Maritime Industry and
Coastal Construction Impacts (MICCI) Team is proud to announce the completion
of the MICCI Local Action Strategy Project 6: Best Management Practices
(BMPs) for construction, dredge and fill and other activities adjacent to
coral reefs. 

The goal of this project was to develop a document of the best management
practices or methods, for constructing, managing, and monitoring coastal
construction projects that impact, or could impact coral reefs.  Examples of
potentially damaging coastal construction projects are dredging, beach
renourishment, blasting, or the installation of pipes and cables.  The
document is meant to serve as a guide for coastal construction engineers and
firms, environmental managers, planners, regulators and resource users in the
coastal construction industry.  It is hoped that by creating a "Best
Management Practices" guidelines document, impacts to coral reefs will be
reduced or eliminated.
