Dear all,

We are currently seeking to appoint a Research Assistant on a 6 month contract to assist
with a NERC-funded research project on coral reef palaeoecology (see below). I'd be
grateful if you could forward the details below to anyone you know who might be
interested.

Cheers
Chris Perry

Research Assistant (Coral Reef Palaeoecology)
Fixed Term Contract - 6 Months from Date of Appointment (start date 1st July 2008)
Salary: Fixed Point - £19,264 pro rata (Point 18, Grade 5)

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work on a NERC funded project which
will assess both temporal and spatial variations in coral growth rates and coral
microskeletal characteristics within coral reefs subject to high terrigenoclastic sediment
input and high turbidity regimes - specifically focusing on a range of nearshore sites
along the central Great Barrier Reef coastline in Australia. The project is being jointly
coordinated by researchers from Manchester Metropolitan University, The Natural History
Museum (London) and James Cook University (Queensland), and will contribute to an on-going
programme of research focused on developing an improved understanding of the geomorphic
and geological evolution of turbid-zone coral reefs.

Information about the research in our group can be found at:
http://www.egs.mmu.ac.uk/users/cperry/Tropicalcoastal/tcmr-home.html

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to, and assist with, both field
sampling and the subsequent analysis of reef framework and sediment samples. This will
include a period of approximately 1 month overseas on fieldwork.

You should have at least a BSc (Hons) degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field of Earth
Science, Physical Geography, Environmental Science or Marine Ecology and a good knowledge
of one or more of the following: coastal geomorphology, palaeoecology, coastal zone
processes, tropical coastal ecology.
