Isn't this discussion rather academic? There is a hierarchical scheme of
things in being a scientist. Some research and uncover the nitty gritty
of a subject, others put the discoveries into practice, and there is a
broad spectrum in between. You need all types, and it is often unwise to
spread oneself too thinly. It is basically the same thing as criticising
a medical researcher for not working in a hospital.
