ICRS NOAA Coral Program Forum: Translating Science into Management
What: NOAA Coral Program Forum: Translating Science into Management
When: Friday, July 11th, from 10:00-11:00 am
Where: ICRS, Convention Center’s Floridian Ballroom D

Dear colleagues:

For those of you planning to attend ICRS, I would like to bring to your
attention an important panel discussion scheduled on the Symposium’s
final day, the NOAA Coral Program Forum: Translating Science into
Management.

The forum will be hosted by NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program
(CRCP), a partnership between several NOAA Line Offices working together
to support effective management and sound science to preserve, sustain
and restore valuable coral reef ecosystems. Last year the CRCP
solicited an external review to assess the program’s effectiveness in
achieving its mandates and provide recommendations for improving its
impact and performance. Improving the link between coral reef science
and management is major element of the external review’s recommendations
and a component of the CRCP's "Roadmap for the Future," which seeks to
identify new directions and priorities for the program over the next
five years.

This forum is an opportunity for the CRCP’s current and potential future
scientific and management partners, grantees, and stakeholders to
interact with NOAA leadership on the direction of coral reef
conservation in the United States and beyond. It will be moderated by
CRCP's new Manager, Kacky Andrews. Panelists will include: Dr. John W.
McManus, director of the National Center for Coral Reef Research
(NCORE); Lynne Hale, director of the TNC Global Marine Initiative; and
Robert Ballard, Deputy Secretary for Land and Recreation, Florida
Department of Environmental Protection.

The NOAA Coral Program Forum: Translating Science into Management will
be held on Friday, July 11th, from 10:00-11:00 am in the Convention
Center’s Floridian Ballroom D. We hope that you can join us and
participate in discussions on this seminal issue.
