I would like to announce two resident lecturer positions at The School for
Field Studies. One is based at the Center for Marine Resource Studies in the
Turks and Caicos Islands and the other is based at the Center for Coastal
Studies in Baja California Sur, Mexico.

THE SCHOOL FOR FIELD STUDIES (SFS): RESIDENT LECTURER IN TROPICAL MARINE
ECOLOGY

LOCATION:  SOUTH CAICOS, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS, BRITISH WEST INDIES

START DATE:  3 SEPTEMBER 2008

 

The Center for Marine Resource Management is one of five international field
stations of the US-based School for Field Studies (SFS). Founded in 1980 SFS
is a non-profit,  university-level study abroad program that provides
hands-on, interdisciplinary education and environmental research in
partnership with natural resource dependent communities.

 

SFS is seeking qualified candidates to teach marine ecology and field
research methods at an undergraduate level using a team-based,
interdisciplinary, problem-solving approach. The core functions of this
residential position are to teach the Tropical Marine Ecology course and one
third of the summer courses and to lead designated components of the
Center's Five-Year Research Plan, including overseeing and advising the
student directed research projects.

 

This is a year-round residential position, and the program is delivered in
English.

 

Qualifications: The qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in some area
related to Tropical Fisheries, Reef Fish Ecology, Conservation Biology, and
Tropical Reef Biology. Candidates must have demonstrable teaching and
extensive field research experience, preferably in the areas of biology and
ecology of local marine fauna and tropical coastal zone ecology. Certified
SCUBA diver, Divemaster highly preferred. Regional nationals are strongly
encouraged to apply.

ISSUES IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

LOCATION:  PTO SAN CARLOS, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, MEXICO

START DATE:  3 SEPTEMBER 2008

 

The Center for Coastal Studies (CCS) is one of five international field
stations of the US-based School for Field Studies (SFS). Founded in 1980 SFS
is an international, non-profit,  university-level study abroad program that
provides hands-on, interdisciplinary education and environmental research in
partnership with natural resource dependent communities.

 

SFS is seeking qualified candidates to teach at an undergraduate level and
engage in field research using a team-based, interdisciplinary,
problem-solving approach. Teaching responsibility includes the Sustainable
Development course and a portion of the Directed Research module. The course
is designed to assist students in identifying the societal changes that
affect the use and management of natural resources in a rapidly developing
coastal community. Practical strategies for development will be explored
through faculty-led research and community outreach projects. 

 

This is a year-round residential position and the program is delivered in
English.

 

Qualifications: The qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in some area
related to Environmental Policy, Environmental Economics, Anthropology,
Community Development. Candidates must have demonstrable teaching and field
research experience, preferably in the Baja region. The position also
requires an excellent command of English and Spanish. Mexican applicants are
strongly encouraged to apply.
