*This is not a federal position**. * *The successful candidate will work 
full-time under a Consolidated Safety Services, Inc. (CSS) contract. The 
candidate will be hired for the NOAA office in Silver Spring, MD.*

A person with some experience in marine biology and a background in 
basic statistics is being sought for a full-time contract position with 
the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) 
Biogeography Branch (BB).  BB is currently working on a number of 
collaborative efforts with partner agencies (e.g. National Park Service, 
National Marine Sanctuary Program).  BB conducts research, monitoring, 
and assessments on the distribution and ecology of living marine 
resources and their associated habitats for improved ecosystem 
management throughout the United States and Island Territories.  The 
position described here is for an assistant to provide support for 
several projects in marine ecosystems.  The candidate will be 
responsible for assisting with data entry, QA/QC, summarizing data, 
writing up results, developing poster and oral presentations, as well as 
other duties that are assigned.

 

 

*Required areas of expertise and knowledge:***

1.       Ability to have fun while working as part of a team

2.       Experience with data entry and maintenance (i.e. Quality 
Assessment and Quality Control)

3.       Strong verbal and written skills

4.       Knowledge or experience with manipulating graphics for 
producing brochures, one-pagers, and presentations (e.g., Use of Adobe 
Photoshop or other graphic software)

5.      Working knowledge of marine ecology

 

*Statistics*

1.      Knowledge of basic statistical methods (e.g., calculate 
estimates of means and variance)

2.       Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and 
Access)

*Good to have*

1.       Some experience with Geographical Information System Technology

2.       Ability to identify Caribbean marine flora and fauna
