[Coral-List] Faculty Position at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT)

Applications are invited for an Assistant Professor level position in the 
Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) Field of Study at the 
Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Pathumthani, Thailand. AIT is an 
autonomous, non-profit, international post-graduate institution offering 
Masters' and PhD degrees, diplomas and certificates in engineering, science, 
planning and management, and serves over 2,000 students from many countries 
across Asia and beyond. Teaching faculty, researchers, staff and students 
from more than 40 countries form a unique international community on the 
Institute's 400 acres, beautifully landscaped residential campus, situated 
42 km north of Bangkok.

The Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM) Field of Study at 
AIT was established in 1981. It has three areas of specialization, namely: 
1) Aquaculture Technology, 2) Aquatic Resources Management, 3) Integrated 
Coastal Management (an interdisciplinary program). So far, over 500 students 
have graduated from AARM and as of January 2009 semester, more than 50 
students are enrolled in AARM with 35% at the doctoral level.  AARM 
graduates are now in positions of influence throughout the Asian region.



Qualifications:

AARM seeks to hire an Assistant Professor with the following qualifications:

1)       Earned doctorate degree in aquatic resources management or coastal 
zone management or related area of specialization.

2)       Expertise and ability to teach courses in aquatic resources 
management and integrated coastal management.

3)       Good research publication record in international journals.

4)       A strong commitment to teaching and research, with the aptitude to 
establish and maintain a dynamic research and development program in aquatic 
resources management and integrated coastal management.



Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate is expected to develop and teach postgraduate 
courses in fisheries and aquatic resources management, integrated coastal 
management and other related courses, supervise Master's and Doctoral 
students, conduct sponsored and individual research, and carry out 
consultancy and outreach activities. In addition, the candidate is expected 
to assist in the conduct of training programs, workshops, and other human 
resource development activities supported by AIT or international or 
national agencies.

Benefits:
The contract period is two years subject to renewal.  The salary offered is 
regionally competitive, commensurate with academic merits and experience. 
Benefits include Provident Fund, settlement grant, medical benefits, and 
education subsidy for dependents.  There are also possibilities for earning 
additional income by carrying out sponsored research projects and consulting 
services.
