Hi All-
The Belize National Coral Reef Monitoring Network has been actively
monitoring bleaching in Belize since the 2008 event-we have lots of
data and maps so please contact the secretary of the working group,
Linda Searle, (ccd) or Mr Mahil (ccd) at the Fisheries Dept. if you
would like more info: in a nutshell, southern belize got it worse in
2008 than 2009, and just the opposite occurred this year (northern
areas had worse bleaching) than southern. We know that mexico also had
severe bleaching this year from earlier than would be expected. the
last surveys were done in Nov (nation wide) and another one is
scheduled for Mid-december.
best,
Lisa Carne
