[Coral-List] Care with acronyms, was Re: Run up to Copenhagen...

We've had a couple of messages appear that I find confusing in their
usage of acronyms -- GW vs. AGW.

GW I take it to mean, global warming, but it could also refer to
anthropogenic global warming -- which usually takes the acronym AGW.
AGW, however, has also been used to mean anti-global warming, at least I
think so, which seems to be the opposite of the usage I have seen in a
number of published scientific papers that use AGW to refer to GW or
anthropogenic global warming.

Confused? So am I. In the immortal words of the sergeant from Hill
Street Blues, "Be careful out there."

Or ... please choose your terms and acronyms wisely.

Seems they received a LOT of response saying they were "choosing sides" and getting too "political". I'd be interested to hear comments addressing the counterpoints brought out in the letter by the AGW scientist.
