Dear List,
A couple of days ago there were a few exchanges on the list concerning
the journal Coral Reefs. At least one of these exchanges contained a
frequent misconception with regard to the International Society for Reef
Studies (ISRS) and the associated journal, Coral Reefs.
Individuals join the ISRS, one of the benefits of which is the receiving
the journal. Individuals do not "subscribe" to the journal.
Subscriptions to the journal are available, not through the ISRS but
through Springer-Verlag who publishes the journal. Subscriptions are
substantially more expensive than joining the ISRS. However, only
individuals can become members of ISRS. Therefore, libraries, labs, and
so forth who wish to obtain the journal, must subscribe.
So, join the ISRS, receive the journal plus the on-line newsletter Reef
Encounter, and vote for officers and council members.

Former Treasurer, ISRS
