Hello all,

The Shaw Group is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Marine Biologist who is familiar with the nearshore hardbottom and coral reef environments of south Florida. The individual will participate in and potentially lead field operations that will entail scientific diving and biological data collection. Dive operations may include marine resource mapping and characterization, artificial reef habitat assessment, biological data collection to determine impacts from coastal construction activities such as beach nourishment, resource restoration (seagrass, coral), and quantification of biotic assemblages (benthos, fish).

The Shaw Group provides premier engineering, design, construction, and maintenance services to government and private-sector clients in a wide array of industries, including the energy, environmental, infrastructure, and emergency response markets.

Summary:
This position requires a willingness to spend extensive time in the field and ability to travel. Work will also include data entry and analysis, as well as report preparation. Familiarity with the permitting process (JCP and ERP) and NEPA documentation considered a plus. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:
Work activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collection and interpretation/evaluation of scientific data
Development of plans, specifications, analyses, evaluations, maps, position papers, procedures and reports. Communication of technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, reports, etc. via oral presentations; and ensures conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Competencies/Experience:
-Bachelor of Science degree in the marine sciences (Master of Science preferred)
-Demonstrated SCUBA diving experience (dive log), with Nitrox and Rescue Diver certifications; preference will be given to AAUS Scientific Divers or those currently in an AAUS program (Diver-In-Training)
-Familiarity with the nearshore hardbottom and coral reef environments of south Florida
-Willingness to travel for up to several weeks at a time for field work
-Willingness to work in sometimes harsh environmental conditions, including cold water temperatures, rough seas and poor underwater visibility
-The ability to work on multiple assignments efficiently with limited supervision
-Must have 3+ years of experience
