SEM-Pasifika Regional Trainer
Position announcement

Period of contract: April 1, 2012-September 30, 2012, with possible 2 year
extension
Time working while on contract: approximately half time, with more effort
leading up to and
during training and mentoring activities
Alternative arrangement: funding of 2 trainers, each 25% time.
Location: position location is flexible but must be within Micronesia
region. Palau or Pohnpei
is optimal.

Summary of Responsibilities:
SEM-Pasifika is a regional initiative that works with communities
throughout the Pacific on
socioeconomic assessments and monitoring to inform management. The
SEM-Pasifika trainer
will serve as co-trainer for regional and site specific SEM-Pasifika
training workshops. The
SEM-Pasifika trainer will also work with Micronesia Challenge (MC) measures
working groups
to ensure that socioeconomic indicators are included in the MC monitoring
and assessment
framework and assist local partners with socioeconomic data collection.

Duties
• Serve as co-trainer regional SEM-Pasifika training workshop in April-May
2012 in
Pohnpei (currently scheduled for April 30-May 11). Work with lead trainer
and local
contacts to assist with logistics of workshop including securing venue.
Help to identify
other co-trainers from within the Micronesia region. Help to draft agenda
for workshop.
Participate fully in workshop planning, including reviewing participant
surveys and
adjusting agenda to meet local needs. Work closely with lead trainer during
the
workshop, including facilitating sessions and working with participants.
Following the
workshop, work with local contacts to ensure completion of SEM-Pasifika
assessment
report.
• Serve as lead trainer for additional trainings in 2012 (dates TBD in
coordination with
local partners). Work with co-trainer and local contacts to finalize
logistics of workshop
including securing venue. Identify other co-trainers from within the
Micronesia region.
Draft agenda for workshop. Lead all workshop planning, including reviewing
participant
surveys and adjusting agenda to meet local needs. Following the workshop,
work with
local contacts to ensure completion of SEM-Pasifika assessment report.
• Work with the Micronesia Challenge to ensure that socioeconomic indicators
are included in the monitoring and assessment framework. Work with the Palau
International Coral Reef Center and others to determine best way to collect
data to
inform the Micronesia Challenge.
• Respond to request from local partners regarding socioeconomic data
collection.

Qualifications:
-B.A. degree required
-Background in social sciences, including anthropology, sociology, or
economics
-Fluency in one or more Micronesian languages
-Experience working in Micronesia region in conservation
-Familiarity with the SEM-Pasifika methodology
-Experience with training and mentoring colleagues
-Ability to work independently
