Dear Marine Science Researchers and Educators,
 
Do you know enthusiastic college or high school students interested in
marine science?
Do you want to help them learn career-building skills under the supervision
of research scientists and college professors?
The Marine Science and Nautical Training Academy (MANTA) is a non-profit
organization that offers unique marine science education programs to high
school and college students.  Students live and learn aboard a catamaran
sailboat in the British Virgin Islands while being immersed in marine
science and mastering practical skills that are needed for the toolbox of
any aspiring marine biologist.  This includes receiving their PADI scuba
diving certification, and learning the hands-on nautical skills needed to
become a capable crewmember on a research vessel.  The course is Field
Studies in Coral Reef Biology, and is taught by faculty at the College of
Charleston from our floating classroom and research platform.  Lectures and
experiential learning are used to teach students about coral reef
ecosystems, and students develop and test their own hypotheses by designing
and executing a short field experiment.

 High school and College summer 2012 programs are scheduled and we still
have a few spots open for enrollment.  The new extended deadline is April
30.
