The Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Ecology (ZMT) GmbHin Bremen is a member of the Leibniz Association, which is supported by theGerman Federal and State Governments. Through its research, Leibniz-ZMT GmbHcontributes to developing science-based strategies for sustainable use oftropical coastal systems (www.zmt-bremen.de).
 
Leibniz-ZMT GmbH offers this position within the frame ofthe BMBF funded German- Indonesian SPICE III Program (Science for theProtection of Indonesian Coastal Ecosystems). The overarching goal of thebilateral SPICE Program is to address the scientific, social and economicissues related to the management of the Indonesian coastal ecosystems and theirresources. In addition to strengthening the existing scientific data base on coastalecosystems, the program promotes capacity and infrastructure building in themaritime sector in Indonesia and Germany and contributes to education andpublic awareness.. The program is being carried out in cooperation amongpartners from several Indonesian and German universities and governmentresearch institutions.
 
Research Assistant for a period of three years.
Salary will be according to the German civil serviceremuneration system for a part time position (TV-L13, 50 %). The candidate willhave the opportunity to do a doctorate at the University of Bremen.
 
The candidate will develop a model on coral reef systemswhich contributes to the development and evaluation of management measures. 
The focus will be on the ecological dynamics in coralreef systems and human resource use and their effects on ecological processesand species composition under different environmental conditions. With thismodel it is intended to integrate data and knowledge from the othersub-projects in the SPICE project MaCoRAS (http://spice.zmt-bremen.com/bbcms/seite_114_1_353.html).
Requirements:
- Master's or Diploma degree in a relevant topic
- Experience in ecological modelling with a stronginterest in individual/agent-based modelling. Good knowledge of a programminglanguage (e.g. Java) is an asset
- Familiarity with reef-ecological field work or humanresource management
- Good skills in English are essential
