[Coral-List] substrate for algal-fish herbivore interactions study

Can anybody recommend a good artificial substrate to carry out a fish
herbivore exclusion experiment to assess the impact of grazing on
algal growth in Barbados? I am considering using roughened (PVC or
terracotta) tiles mainly because of the ease of handling (e.g.
transport in and out of the water) but the literature is quite diverse
in the substrates used.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated
