Dear list members,

I am writing to call your attention to a new paper on the use of
hyperspectral sensing (i.e. remote sensing) of various coral disease states:

Anderson DA, Armstrong RA, Weil E (2013) Hyperspectral Sensing of Disease
Stress in the Caribbean Reef-Building Coral, *Orbicella faveolata* -
Perspectives for the Field of Coral Disease Monitoring. PLoS ONE 8(12):
e81478. doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0081478<http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0081478>

This study was conducted during the simultaneous coral bleaching and
Caribbean yellow band disease event in La Parguera, Puerto Rico in 2010 in
the Weil and Armstrong labs at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez
research station on Isla Magueyes.

We hope that it spurs future research on the application of new approaches
to monitoring, diagnosing and investigating infectious coral diseases and
syndromes.

Sincerely,

David Anderson
