[Coral-List] Lab Tech position in Miami, FL

Please see the following job posting for a research based lab tech position in Miami, Florida. The lab, located at NOAA's Atlantic Oceanographic & Meteorological Laboratory, is interested in the understanding the impacts of ocean acidification on coral reef ecosystems. The position is for two years, with the potential for continuation based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. The successful candidate’s duties will include, but are not limited to the following: 1) scan and analyze coral carbonate fragments for density and annual banding using a micro-CT scanner, 2) carbonate chemistry analysis of water samples, including total alkalinity and DIC titration, 3) assist with and participate in periodic field operations in the Florida Keys. 

The successful applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree in marine science or a related field from an accredited university. Applicants must be highly motivated, organized, and have the ability to adapt to a dynamic lab environment. Proficiency with computers is a must as this position will primarily involve computer-based work such as digital image analysis. Strong analytical and laboratory skills are required, along with experience working in strenuous field environments. Experience with small boats and AAUS SCUBA diving certification are highly desirable but not required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a close familiarity with coral reef ecosystems, coral densitometry, ocean acidification, carbonate chemistry, coral calcification, and bioerosion.
