Doug, I think you have nailed it. Excellent! However we will probably be
worrying about this long after we are gone. Geologists still argue about
geologic reefs and the difference between them and a biostrome. When a
biostrome (a layer made up of some kind of skeletal remains) thickens
the thick part at some point may be called a reef or a bioherm.
Personally I am waiting for the day I drill down through a reef and
encounter a coral encrusted flying saucer. Gene
