Dear Colleagues,

I am a postdoc at Woods Hole Oceanographic in Liz Kujawinski's lab, where
our research if focused on microbial interactions with dissolved organic
matter. We are trying to get a small but exciting project funded through
the crowd-funding platform Experiment. The project goal is to see how
sponges influence nutrient availability on coral reefs by characterizing
the diverse small compounds in the seawater (important nutrients) that are
taken up by sponges and their microbes and those that are added to the
surrounding water.

The project website has a video and more information that explains what we
want to do and how we are going to do it:
https://experiment.com/projects/how-do-sponges-influence-the-availability-of-nutrients-on-coral-reefs

For any educators out there I would be happy to make this accessible to a
school group! I hope you will check out our project, contribute if you can,
and share with others who might be interested- the exciting part to this
crowd-funding platform is that if we are successful, backers will be able
to follow along with the research by 'lab notes' that we will post on the
project site! A fantastic way to reach a broad community, but I could use
your help in bringing those folks in.

Thank you for your consideration during this busy time of year!
