News item:

"UN: Global warming harms corals vital to small islands."

http://www.voanews.com/content/reuters-un-global-warming-damages-corals-vital-to-small-islands/1930778.html

There is a link in this news item to the report itself. The report is
entitled "Emerging issues for for small island developing states", so it is
likely to cover a lot more than just the global warming effects on corals.

My own guess is that the big emitting countries, like the US and China,
will not take action on climate change to save small island developing
states. I also don't think they will take action on climate change to save
coral reefs. Coral reefs probably aren't on the top 100 concerns of most
of the citizens of most large countries, including those two. But when
something like sea level rise threatens to submerge $1 trillion worth of
real estate in the US, maybe that is getting some people's attention.
Self-interest is often a great motivator.

Cheers, Doug
