JIMAR PIFSC INSULAR FISHERIES RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - ID# 14299. Joint
Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research. Regular, Full-

Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth
Science and Technology (SOEST), Joint Institute for Marine and

Atmospheric Research (JIMAR), located at the National Marine Fisheries
Service (NMFS), Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC),

located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon
program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance,

availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $2,189.00/Mon. DUTIES: Examines methods of
fishery-independent data collection for insular fish stocks (reef and
bottomfish) in the Pacific Island Region (PIR). Uses non-extractive
stereo-video camera techniques to obtain data on commercially valuable
insular fish stocks in the PIR. Analyzes video to extract data on abundance
and size structure of fish assemblages for statistical analysis and
synthesizes results to provide spatially and temporally explicit fish
assemblage metrics. Also participates in some field work. PRIMARY
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited
four (4) year college or university in Zoology, Biology, Oceanography, or a
related field. EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of experience analyzing
stereo-video data for reef or bottomfish assemblages in the PIR.
ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Knowledge and experience in biology and identification of
insular fishes (reef and bottomfish) in the PIR. Must be able to meet and
maintain United States (US) Department of Commerce (DOC) and National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) security requirements to
access work location. Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien.
Ability to use standard computer software used in science such as word
processing, spreadsheets, databases (Access, Oracle, MySQL), statistical
programs (Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), R), e-mail, and internet
access programs. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to meet and
maintain US Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) security requirements for working in a federal
facility, which includes being fingerprinted and having a federal background
check performed prior to date of hire and maintained throughout duration of
employment. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to participate in field
operations aboard small boats in sometimes rough sea conditions. Able to
lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to obtain and maintain
NOAA Medical Clearance for embarking/working on NOAA research vessels which
includes providing proof of required immunizations and/or obtaining and
maintaining the necessary immunizations as required by NOAA Marine and
Aviation Operations. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: As a condition
of employment, incumbent will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and
procedures and as applicable subject to University of Hawaii's and/or
business entity's policies and procedures. Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or

business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal
laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not
limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or
criminal penalties, etc.). SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Wide range of
experience in fish biology and the use of databases. Knowledge of broad
range of laboratory techniques and how to operate laboratory equipment. Some
Geographic Information System (GIS) computer experience and experience with
Event Measure or similar software used to analyze stereo-video data.
