*Faculty Position in Coastal Oceanography*



The University of Guam Marine Laboratory (UOGML) was founded in 1970 and ser
ves as a major institution for marine science research in the Western Pacific
including the Micronesian Region. While its current focus is largely directe
d towards basic and applied research in coral reef and associated ecosystem
s, new initiatives are driving an expansion in research effort towards exami
ning interactions between oceanic processes and coastal environments.



The UOGML is seeking highly qualified applications with research expertise
in the following area: Coastal Oceanography. This nine-month tenure track ap
pointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level.



We are interested in candidates able to address interdisciplinary and large-
scale

questions. Emphasis is given to research on climate change effects on coral
reef systems, and the interface of estuaries and coral reef systems influenc
ed by environmental and anthropogenic effects.



The successful candidate will develop a viable and energetic externally-fund
ed research program, is expected to make major contributions to the Univer
sity’s EPSCoR research program, and may also contribute to the U54 NIH-Nati
onal Cancer Institute program in a support capacity.  The candidate is expe
cted to develop and teach a graduate level course in oceanography and will a
lso teach a second graduate course, with a total of two

semester-long courses being taught every four semesters. The candidate may a
lso teach a seminar course when required. A Ph.D in Oceanography or another
appropriate discipline, plus at least one year of post-doctoral experience,
are required.



This position will become available in during Spring Semester, 2015. The Oce
anography Search Committee will begin review of applications on 7 January, 2
015 and will continue until the position is filled.
