Senior Research Assistant (6 posts) in The Swire Institute of Marine Science (Ref.: 201500611) (to commence on October 1, 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter for 18 months, with the possibility of renewal)
The Senior Research Assistants will join an exciting new census of marine biodiversity funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund involving numerous tertiary institutions in Hong Kong.  The census will take place in the culturally and ecologically important Ting Kok area of Tolo Harbour, Hong Kong from October 2015.
Positions in the following areas are to be filled:

 1.  project coordination - oversee project organization and implementation including research and outreach activities
 2.  rocky shore (intertidal) and juvenile fish communities
 3.  soft shore and mangrove communities
 4.  subtidal rocky reefs and coral communities
 5.  plankton communities
 6.  economic modeling and traditional knowledge (50% part-time appointment)


Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in marine biology, ecology or biodiversity related disciplines.  Preference will be given to those with proven ability to conduct field research, and a track record in biodiversity research through peer-reviewed publications.  For area 1, applicants should have the ability to speak Cantonese and read and write traditional Chinese.  This is not a requirement for the other areas, but would be an advantage.  The appointees’ duties will be further supported by research assistants.  They will be appointed by The University of Hong Kong, but will be expected to report and execute their duties at partner universities as necessary.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
