Miami city workers recently cut down old growth fringing mangroves (a valuable nursery fish habitat) in Virginia Key, Florida. The cut down lacked a permit.
This is particularly devastating considering the location is just a few meters from RSMAS-University of Miami (where the First Symposium on Mangroves as Fish Habitat was held) and NOAA-Southeast Fisheries Science Center (where scientists do research on mangroves).
So all the research done nearby could not save these mangroves
