Dear Listers,

This is a small reminder to submit abstracts for Session 45: FLUORESCENCE ON CORAL REEFS: FROM BIOLOGY TO TECHNOLOGY<https://www.sgmeet.com/icrs2016/sessionschedule.asp?SessionID=45>.
Deadline is tomorrow!
Session Description:
Fluorescent Proteins (FP's) can comprise up to 14% of the total protein content of some coral species, potentially contributing to important biological functions in corals, that are not yet entirely understood. FP's play a role in photoprotection but may also help symbiont photosynthesis in low light environments. Several additional functions are under discussion. Coral fluorescence can potentially serve as an indicator of coral health and, at a larger scale, facilitate coral habitat surveys. Furthermore, fluorescent proteins enable novel imaging application in biomedical research. This session aims to discuss new findings on the function of FPs, as well as to present recent developments in fluorescent protein-based habitat mapping and biotechnological applications.
